T.W. Memorial Golf Tournament set for March 17-18

SPARTANBURG, SC — The T.W. Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday and Saturday, March 17 and 18, in Spartanburg with 76 players participating.

Team Spartanburg, the sports council of the Spartanburg Convention & Visitors Bureau, is assisting the event.

Lewis Terry, golf coach at Dorman High School, and Rick Tate at Boiling Springs High School are co-directing the high school tournament.  Terry says teams from throughout South Carolina and two teams from North Carolina are entered.  Play will be at the Carolina Country Club on Friday and the Woodfin Ridge Country Club on Saturday.

“Dorman High School has hosted a golf tournament for a number of years, and now this two-day tournament has become more enticing to players and teams, Terry says.  This is the second year for the T.W. Memorial, named in honor of the late Todd Watson, who played golf at Dorman and was killed in an automobile accident, and the late Stewart Tomson, former golf coach at Boiling Springs High School.

Some 80 to 100 spectators are expected for the tournament, and Terry encourages others to come out to watch, free of charge.  Use of a golf cart for spectators will require a nominal fee.

The public also is invited to the banquet for tournament players, coaches and families on Friday at Dorman.  Attendance is free.  The speaker will be Kent Honea of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg, which is donating the use of The Hangar for players to enjoy ping pong, basketball and other recreational activities during the two-day event.

The host hotel is the Radisson Hotel & Suites.
