SC Bowling Tournament set for April, May in Spartanburg
SPARTANBURG, SC
— The Spartanburg United States Bowling Congress
Bowling Association is hosting the annual South Carolina Bowling
Tournament this month and next. Events already have been held over the
past weekend, with more scheduled for April 22-23, 29-30 and May 6-7.
Host centers are Shamrock Lanes and Star Lanes. More than 1,200 bowlers
are participating, and more than 2,000 out-of-town visitors are expected
in Spartanburg during the tournament, according to Kent Smith, local
association president.
Among the bowlers expected to participate are Tommy Jones (Greenville,
SC), currently one of the top bowlers on the national professional tour;
Brian Osteen (Spartanburg), a top bowler on the regional professional
tour; and local Hall of Fame members Dotchie Brannon, Marty Chapman, Larry
Copeland, Larry Murray, Eddie Goins, Kent Smith and Kevin Westbrook.
Smith emphasizes that hosting a tournament of this size would not be
possible without the cooperation of a large number of people. The
tournament director, Bob Michael, from Myrtle Beach, and the staffs and
management of Shamrock Lanes and Star Lanes have worked with the local
association board of directors in preparation for this tournament.
The host hotel for the tournament is the Radisson Hotel & Suites. Other
participating hotels are the Country Hearth Inn, Hampton Inn & Suites
(Westgate), Holiday Inn Express (Westgate) and the Marriott at Renaissance
Park.
Tournament sponsors are Budweiser of Spartanburg, Fire Mountain Grill and
Denny’s. Other participating businesses are Coca-Cola of Spartanburg, Bo’s
Fish Camp, Bruce Chiropractic Center and Consulting Engineering Services.
Team Spartanburg, the sports council of the Spartanburg Convention &
Visitors Bureau, also is assisting the event.
