SPARTANBURG,
SC - The T.W. Memorial Golf Tournament, sponsored by
BB&T, will be held on March 16 and 17, with 19 teams and 76
players participating.
Lewis Terry, golf coach at Dorman High School and
co-director of the high school tournament, says teams from
throughout South Carolina and one team from North Carolina
are entered. Play will be at the Cherokee National Golf Club
in Gaffney on Friday, March 16, and at River Falls
Plantation on Saturday, March 17.
While Dorman has hosted a golf tournament for a number of
years, this will be the third year it will be held in honor
of the late Todd Watson, a Dorman golfer who was killed in
an automobile accident, and the late Stewart Tomson, former
golf coach at Boiling Springs High School. The tournament is
named the T.W. Memorial in honor of Tomson and Watson.
Terry encourages spectators to come to watch the tournament
play, free of charge. Use of a golf cart for spectators will
require a nominal fee.
The public also is invited to the Champions Dinner on Friday
night at Cherokee National, sponsored by Outback Steakhouse
and South Carolina Fellowship of Christian Athletes. “We
encourage the parents and any others interested to come to
the dinner and meet the players,” Terry says, adding that a
nominal fee will be charged.
The host hotel for the tournament is the Spartanburg Inn at
Boiling Springs.
The tournament is co-hosted by Dorman High School (Lewis
Terry, coach), Boiling Springs High School (Rick Tate,
coach) and Gaffney High School (Mark Ireton, coach). For
