Sports venues and activities of every imaginable interest, for young and old, male and female, can be found in Spartanburg.

Team Spartanburg is the sports council of the Spartanburg Convention & Visitors Bureau, an affiliate organization of the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce.  Its mission is to promote Spartanburg, South Carolina, as a destination for sports events.

The council is operated by a volunteer network involving 100-plus people from local businesses, colleges and universities, community organizations and governmental entities, all interested in the positive effects sports venues and events can have on a community.

Team Spartanburg is organized with an Oversight Committee that manages three broad-based committees -- Event Services (Publicity, Hospitality, Volunteers), Operations (Finance, Marketing, Economic Impact), and Sports Development (Recruitment of Events and special committees/task forces for special events).

For event holders, the Event Services subcommittees can assist with publicizing events through news releases, web site exposure and a variety of opportunities; with contacting appropriate hotel and restaurant venues; and with providing on a limited basis, depending on the nature of the event, volunteers.


Wofford College is the site of the summer training camp for the Carolina Panthers, 2003-04 NFC Champions.  Thousands of visitors attend practices from mid-July through mid-August each year.
